Essential Dressmaking Techniques is ideal for those who already know how to thread & sew on a machine.

This all-day session covers many of the dressmaking skills you need to start sewing clothes at home and is designed to fill you with both confidence & sewing knowledge. MaryRose classes teach professional sewing techniques used in the industry and many other nifty tricks of the trade, guaranteeing superb sewing results every time.

Sewing machines, fabrics, threads, and all other materials you’ll need for the class are provided.

One-to-one tuition is guaranteed for each student when needed in class, and the sewing schedule has been specifically designed to fast-track your sewing success in a concentrated time. By the end of the six hours, you will be ready to get started on those exciting projects at home!

Your tutor is studio owner MaryRose McGrath – a designer with over 25 years of experience in the fashion industry. She spent over a decade designing for many well-known fashion brands, including Oasis, M&S, Debenhams and House Of Fraser, before returning home to establish her label in 2008. She now designs luxury bespoke bridal gowns, chic womanswear and couture communion dresses.

  8. How to sew precise even hems by machine and hand

  10. How to construct a channel for elastic waistbands or sportswear finishes
  11. Facings – the amazing way to professionally finish necklines and armholes & avoid having to fully line the garment

The course is held in MaryRose’s fashion design studio in Conway Mill, Belfast.

How much does the course cost?

The course cost is £99.

The price includes 6 hours of intensive dressmaking sewing tuition,

the use of the design studio and equipment, plus all the fabrics & threads you will need in class.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is perfect for starter dressmakers age 18+ who already know how to sew with relative confidence on your machine, and will not need help threading it in class. You have successfully completed several starter sewing projects already, and are ready to start making clothes or doing alterations.

When is the course taught?

This course is offered as a full-day class on weekends or as a two-session evening class on select weekdays.

What age do you have to be to take part?

Classes are for ages 18+. Young sewers aged 12+ are also welcome if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian who is also booked on the course.
